The Ethiopian Horticulture Producer Exporters Association, EHPEA, was established in 2002 to represent
the interests and promote the expansion and establishment of the emerging export horticulture and
floriculture sector in Ethiopia.
EHPEA is a non-profit making and non-governmental organization whose members are all registered
businesses engaged in the production of cuttings or fresh flowers, fruit, vegetables and herbs for
export.
In the beginning there were just five members but this has grown as the sector has expanded and there
are now more than 80 members.
Management of the Association is carried out by a Board of five members elected by the General
Assembly and routine operations are carried out by an Executive Director and support staff.
Our Mission Statement
Our mission at EHPEA is to promote and safeguard the sustainable competitive position of the Ethiopian horticulture sector within the global market.
The strategic activities of our Association include:
- Representation of the Sector
- Facilitating market access and market linkages
- Supporting the implementation of responsible production practices that protect employees and
- the environment.
- Organizing, supporting and delivering capacity building activities for members
- Formation of partnerships and networking with stakeholders
During it\'s establishment EHPEA had faced some challenges for instance, the number of members required to establish an association is five but there were only three. In addition attention was not given to the sector at that time since nobody knew about its advantages.
But now it is affiliated to the Ministry of Trade and Industry, the Department of International Development (DFID), CBI Netherlands and the French Development Cooperation. In Addition it has developed linkages with the Different government offices, Institutions, Ethiopian Airlines and local banks. It has also explored linkages with business enterprises in Africa, Middle East, Europe and the USA.
Currently EHPEA has 83 members and the number is increasing from time to time. Members are required to be duly registered or licensed and actively engaged as producer exporters of horticultural(flowers and other ornamental plants, fruits, vegetable, herbs, etc ) products in Ethiopia.
EHPEA is managed by five Board Members who are elected by the General Assembly of members. For running its day-to-day activities, EHPEA has an Executive Director and other supportive staffs. The association is working towards developing and expanding the sector for the benefit of the country. |
